Far from the crowded beaches and heavy boat traffic that characterize much of the southern coast during the summer, the north coast offers a much wilder, more protected environment, perfect for enjoying kayaking in complete tranquility.
A unique and different landscape
The north coast of Menorca surprises visitors with its impressive cliffs, golden sand beaches, sea caves, islets, and rock formations sculpted by the Tramuntana wind over thousands of years.
Unlike the limestone landscape of the south, the north boasts a much older and more spectacular geology, creating a perfect setting for kayaking while discovering hidden corners inaccessible by land.
Every outing is different. You can paddle alongside reddish cliffs, enter small natural caves, visit pristine beaches, or stop to snorkel in crystal-clear waters.
A Marine Reserve with exceptional biodiversity
One of the great attractions of this area is that a large part of the coastline forms part of the North Menorca Marine Reserve, a protected area of more than 5,000 hectares created in 1999 to conserve one of the best-preserved marine ecosystems in the Mediterranean. Thanks to this protection, marine biodiversity has increased significantly, and it is common to find rocky seabeds teeming with life, Posidonia seagrass meadows, and a wide variety of fish and crustacean species.
For snorkeling enthusiasts, combining a kayak excursion with a swim in these waters is an unparalleled experience.
Much less crowded than the south coast
During July and August, many of the coves in the south receive thousands of visitors every day. In addition to the high number of swimmers, the constant traffic of recreational boats can make the kayaking experience less relaxing and require extra caution.
In contrast, the north coast maintains a much more natural and tranquil character.
Here, it's common to paddle for long stretches with hardly any other boats around, enjoying the sound of the sea and nature in its almost pristine state.
This difference makes the north an ideal option for those who want to disconnect from mass tourism and have a much more authentic experience.
A route full of spectacular places
Among the most impressive spots that can be discovered by kayak are:
Fornells Bay and its calm waters.
Santitja Port and its underwater world.
Cala Pregonda, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain.
The area around Cavalleria and its spectacular rocky coastline.
The islets and small hidden coves between Fornells and Addaia.
The area around the Favàritx Lighthouse, one of the most spectacular landscapes in all of Menorca.
Each of these places offers completely different scenery and allows you to enjoy the island from a perspective impossible to achieve on foot.
